Open Air Burning Law

 

FOREST FIRE DEPARTMENT

PERMIT FOR FIRES IN THE OPEN AIR

By virtue of the authority invested in me as forest warden of the town of Webster, county of Worcester, permission is hereby granted to set fire for the purpose of burning BRUSH ONLY on a parcel of land situated as follows: 

Said permission is granted on conditions that the person setting the fire is the owner of the land or the authorized agent, that he complies with the instructions printed at the foot of this sheet and that such burning shall be done after calling the fire department Dispatcher the day burning is to be done, on Saturdays you must call before 12:00 noon and if burning is going to be done on Sunday you must tell the Dispatcher on Saturday before noon or you will not be allowed to burn. Calling the police department nor reaching the fire departments answering machine will NOT be allowed.  You must speak with the Dispatcher at the fire department.  Burning hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (firm) No burning is allowed on holidays.

Forest warden may revoke permit at any time

This permit is valid after paying a one time fee of $10.00, the person granted the permit must call the dispatcher the day burning is to be done except on Sundays. Burning is allowed from January 16, 2007 until April 30th 2007.

This permit does not release any liability for damages.

 

The person setting the fire shall have sufficient help to control the fire and shall not leave the fire unattended until entirely extinguished. 

 

In case of heavy winds or otherwise dangerous conditions, this permit is invalid by law. Fire must be 75 feet away from any dwelling or structure and only brush is allowed to burn, (no leaves, shrubs, logs, stumps or building materials will be tolerated.)
